Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Why do we never see Sunshine Suites advertised in any of the fancy travel magazines?

Sunshine Suites has an excellent reputation, both in the trade and among past guests.  Most of our business is repeat visitors or referrals from past guests.  Advertising just isn’t necessary, and no advertising helps keep our prices low.

  2. My wife is nuts about cleanliness. Will she be okay at Sunshine Suites?

Absolutely!   We are nuts about cleanliness too.
  1. We are accustomed to fine hotels.  Will we be okay at Sunshine Suites?

Yes, but some will prefer the Ritz Carlton next door.  Their rooms are very nice, but do not have kitchens and their rates are much higher.

  2. If you’re such a good hotel, why are your prices so low?

    Several reasons:
    1. We are an independent hotel and unlike our competition, we do not pay 9 to 12% of gross revenues to a chain-hotel company to use their name.
    2. Our average staff member has been with us for over five years.  They are very efficient, love their job and rarely turn over.
    3. We don’t have to support a big lobby, employ a doorman to open your car door, and our front desk team doubles as the best concierge on the island.

  1. Trip Advisor says your restaurant is Number One on the island.  Will I have any trouble getting in?

Possibly (it really is that good!)  There’s usually a short wait for both lunch and dinner at the peak times.  But we make a special effort to accommodate our hotel guests.

  1. You’re not directly on the beach.  How close are you?

We’re located directly across West Bay Road from the best part of Seven Mile Beach.   The walk is approximately 150 yards.  We provide beach chairs and beach towels at no charge.

  1. What’s the deal on breakfast?

It’s free every day and is served from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.  It features scrambled eggs, hash browns, fresh fruits, muffins, toast, waffles, cereals, juice and coffee.

  1. What is your pet policy?

All pets are subject to approval by Nelson, the Weather Dog, our resident beagle.  There will be a $100 pet deposit and a maximum stay of 7 nights. (Nelson tends to get a little jealous after a week)

  1. Tell me about the kitchens.  And is there a good supermarket nearby?

ALL rooms feature kitchens with 2-burner cook top, microwave, sink, refrigerator, coffee maker and an assortment of cooking and dining utensils.  Cost-U-Less (the Caribbean version of Costco) is a 5 minute walk and Foster’s Food Fair IGA is a nice 10 minute walk.

  1. How do I get to Sunshine Suites from the airport?

Via rent car – we have a special offer with Budget and recommend that you make your reservation for a car when you make your reservation with us.  (Remember – we drive on the left in Cayman.)

Via taxi – The usual cost is approximately US$24 for 2 people and it takes about 10 minutes.

  1. Do we need to convert money while we’re there?

You can, but it’s not necessary.  Every business on the island accepts both US and CI dollars.  (1 US dollar = .80 CI)

  1. Are there public buses in addition to taxis?

Yes, they run by the hotel frequently and cost US$2.50 to go anywhere along their route.  (They are not available to and from the airport)

  1. We heard the lobby closes at 10pm.  What happens if we have a late flight or need assistance after hours?

We have professional personnel on duty 24 hours per day 365 days per year to assist.
